To secure space for Chirripo Trek and Chirripo Through San Geronimo, reservations must be placed 6 months in advance for high season (November – March).  Complete information of the visitor must be provided in order to make the reservations when space is requested. Hiking shoes (waterproof are recommended), rainjacket and rainpants, pack raincover, fleece coat, hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, hiking poles, sandals or shoes for resting in camp and lodges, sleeping bag (required at Indians’ Pass), gloves, small towel, personal medicines, energy food, warm clothes (for inside and outside), good flashlight/headlamp with extra batteries.
In order to take this tour, you need to arrive in San Gerardo of Rivas the day before it starts to register at the park station. You must arrive at the park office before 3:30 p.m. failure to do so means you will not be able to take the hike (unless you are the only people taking the tour the next day). After registering, we go to Herradura where you will spend the first night.

Itinerary

Registration in San Gerardo / Lodging in Herradura

On this day, you register at the station in San Gerardo and depart to Herradura where you will spend the night. Please arrive in time (before 3pm) and let us know the estimate time at which you arrive this day in San Gerardo. You will receive an informative talk by the guide on this day.

Indians’ Pass (3,290 m / 10,793 ft)

We begin our trek in Herradura at 5:00 a.m. You need to be ready at 4:30 a.m for breakfast. Today, we hike around 15 km all the way to the famous Indians Pass, where we have lunch. If weather allows, we can see San Isidro downtown at this point. Dinner is served at 6:00 p.m.

Indians’ Pass / Mount Urán/ Chirripó

After having breakfast early while it is still dark, we will continue our trek for 17 km towards Base Crestones Station. Breakfast is ready at 4:00 a.m. and we depart at 4:30 a.m. From there you can observe both Oceans if weather permits it, mount Chirripó at the distance along the mountain ridge, Cerro de La Muerte, Poás, Barba, Irazú  and Turrialba volcanoes, and even Volcán Barú in Panamá. Later on continue our trek to  Mnt Chirripó. After visiting the highest peak of Costa Rica, we continue our hike to Base Crestones Station arriving at lunch time.

Base Crestones/ San Gerardo

Breakfast at 5:00 a.m. We start descending at 6:00 am back to the village to arrive at lunch time.
