Itinerary
Your journey begins with the arrival to San Gerardo de Dota, a picturesque village characterized by its cloud forests and many species of flora and fauna that house in it,among which highlights the resplendent quetzal, one of the most famous birds in our country (L.D).
This day you will walk from San Gerardo to the highest peak of Cerro de la Muerte, at the start of the hike you will go through primary cloud forest (specially oak trees) and paramo forest. This trek has nice views; if the weather is not cloudy you can observe both the Pacific and the Atlantic oceans; and some important elevations such as: Turrialba volcano, Irazú volcano and Cerro Chirripó. On the way you might enjoy birds of the region early in the morning, including the mighty Quetzal (B.L.D).
After having breakfast a beautiful hike along the Savegre River is waiting for us. On this walkyou can enjoy a huge diversity of birds, plants, insects, frogs, mushrooms, and many more species all this as we walk from the top to the bottom of Los Santos Forest Reserve. You´ll leave San Gerardo de Dota by trails to the village of Providencia where you´ll be delighted and spend the night at La Piedra cabins (B.L.D).
Today the singing of birds will wake you up, nothing better to start a new day. After a typical breakfast a local guide will accompany you within Los Santos Reserve, where the beauty of the forest and its diversity of animals and plants will come up to the front of your eyes (B.L).
